Big Bang

The Hubble Space Telescope observed that galaxies outside our own Milky Way are away. This made us think that the whole universe has been expanding. When the universe was contained in a single point. It happened a violent event, "The big bang".

One of the questions is whether the universe will expand forever or someday stop.

NASA has launched two missions to study the cosmic background radiation, and to take pictures to better understand this phenomenon.

"Maldita Vecindad"

The Damn Neighbourhood and the Sons of the Fifth Patio, usually called only "La Maldita") are a band formed in Mexico City in 1985. They are pioneers in rock en Español and are one of the most influential rock bands in Mexico.
They first made an impact with "Mojado", "Un poco de sangre", "Cocodrilo", "Pachuco" and "Un Gran Circo," which narrates the problems, adventures, and beauty of a society anxious to improve its economic status. Their wardrobe has incorporated elements of the Pachuco, an archetypical character represented by Tin Tán in the Mexican cinema. Tin Tan is sampled in one of the group's biggest hits, 1991's Pachuco.
The last studio album recorded was in 1998. Since then, the band has collaborated with other bands, as well as having participated in tribute albums like the tributes for José José and Tigres del Norte. Their sound incorporates many styles, including Ska, Rock, and traditional Cuban forms such as the bolero and Cuban Son. Roco, the band's vocalist, dresses in a manner reminiscent of the Pachucos.

Throughout their career, La Maldita Vecindad has remained a creative force as it has also managed to create unique covers of songs by artists from strikingly different genres like Los Tigres del Norte, Armando Manzanero and Juan Gabriel.
Their newest CD, Circular Colectivo, (Nacional Records 2010) maintains much of the ska/punk energy with a contemporary sound. The lyrics talk about the crisis that Mexican society faces in a rapidly changing global economy while paying tribute to Rahsaan Roland Kirk and Ernest Ranglin. The production by San Francisco based producers, Greg Landau (Susana Baca, Patato Valdez, Quetzal) and Hector "Hecdog" Perez, helped the band craft a new path in Mexican music. The CD features two cameos by Cuban pianist Omar Sosa.

"Mano Negra"

Named in honor of an Andalucian anarchist group, Mano Negra emerged from the same Parisian artists' scene which also gave rise to the like-minded Les Negresses Vertes, drawing equal influence from the punk ethos of the Clash and the multitude of sounds and rhythms endemic to the global music community. Formed in 1986 from the remnants of the neo-rockabilly unit the Hot Pants, Mano Negra essentially consisted of vocalist Manu Chao, his trumpeter brother Tonio and drummer cousin Santiago Casiriego, Spanish natives who fused rock, rap, flamenco and rai to create a heady brew they dubbed "Patchanka," a name derived from a Spanish pejorative for dancehall music. Mano Negra's debut LP, also titled Patchanka, appeared in 1988, scoring the French indie hit "Mala Vida."

The record's success led to a contract with Virgin, which in 1989 issued the group's sophomore effort Puta's Fever (Dominican slang for a sexually-transmitted disease caught from a prostitute), increasing the band's visibility abroad as well as establishing them as France's most popular alternative act. While 1991's King of Bongo attempted to broaden their Anglo fanbase via the inclusion of several English-language tracks, but their focus quickly turned to South America when in 1992 they embarked on the "Cargo Tour," travelling to a series of port cities to perform on a stage built into their ship's hold. Mano Negra returned the following year, this time journeying by rail from Colombia's Caribbean coast to the capital city of Bogotá, giving free concerts at stations en route. Latin influences dominated 1994's Casa Babylon, which proved to be the group's final record; Manu Chao later resurfaced in Radio Bemba, and released his first solo album (Clandestino) in 1998.
